About Shusei Kai Martial Arts
Shusei Kai Martial Arts (SKMA) was formed in 2017 by head instructor Shihan John Schieven
Shihan John Schieven
In 1997 Shihan John started his training in Goju Ryu Karate at WGKA with Kyoshi Joseph Ialasi 7th Dan Black Belt.
John obtained his Black Belt in 2003 and started teaching children and adults in 2005. John has competed in local and club tournaments in both Kata, (forms), and Kumite, (sparing).
He currently holds a 5th Dan in Karate and is working towards his next grading.
John has continued his training not only in Goju Karate but also achieved his Black Belt in Australian Freestyle Combat Karate with Mick Nicholls. Currently still training in Freestyle Kali Concepts which incorporates training in a Filipino Martial Arts using Kali Sticks, Knife, Machete and Empty Hand Concepts. John is an Apprentice level 2 Instructor working towards a full instructor level.
SKMA also organises seminars with Maul Mornie and his family art of Silat Suffian Bela Diri, again a weapons based art from Brunei.
Shihan John has attained his Level 1 Coaching with the Australian Karate Federation.
